UFC Undisputed 2010 trailer reminds us of MJ, makes us sad

Aww, we were having such a good time watching last night's Spike Video Game Awards show -- then the trailer for the recently dated UFC Undisputed 2010 aired, and really soured our enjoyment of the event. See, the first minute of the video utilizes the transformative special effects featured in Michael Jackson's "Black or White" music video, so immediately we started thinking about how this would be our first Christmas without MJ in our lives. Nothing could revive our good spirits after that. Not even Kimbo Slice's beard, which may be filled with hidden candies.

Check out the trailer after the jump above, but feel free to skip to the 0:52 mark if you want to avoid the melancholy described above. Alternatively, skip to the 1:01 mark if you want to witness Kimbo's glorious, confection-rich facial hair.

Finally, An Android that Looks Just Like You

You’ve been scouting out the android market (we’re talking about the human-like robot here, not the mobile OS) for a while now, but you never found one whose looks you like?

Those days are over: Japanese department store Sogo & Seibu plans to sell two Actroids that can be modeled after the buyer for a meager price of $225,000. If you aren’t scared off by the price or the fact that having an android that looks just like you is super creepy, read on.

The Actroids (we’re not entirely sure, but it seems they’re only available in the female variety) can’t walk, but they can move their upper bodies and talk. Even better, you can provide your own voice, so the Actroids can look and sound exactly like you.

If you’re concerned about build quality, the actual androids will be created by Kokoro, a company that has a certain experience in android design. Still, $225,000? While it is that time of year when we like to pleasantly surprise ourselves by buying gadgetry we don’t need, being able to trick the neighbors/family into thinking you’re home while you’re actually out partying may not be worth the price.

Sunsoft acquires Telenet game catalog (think: Valis, Cosmic Fantasy)

As part of its relaunch, Japanese publisher Sunsoft announced that it has purchased the rights to the entire 100-plus game library of Nihon Telenet. Even if you're not familiar with the name, you probably remember the games (most of which were published by Renovation) and their (at the time) exotic-looking anime-style covers. Telenet was the creator of the Valis series, along with action titles like El Viento, shmups like Sol-Deace and Gaiares, and the Cosmic Fantasy RPG series.

Sunsoft will begin releasing classics from the library on the Wii Virtual Console and other services -- and then it will start producing remakes and new installments. This could finally be our chance for that non-pornographic Valis sequel we've been waiting for!

Gaijinworks - the new company started by Working Designs' Victor Ireland - has been working with Sunsoft on the company's relaunch and is named as instrumental in this deal. Working Designs' history with Telenet goes back to 1992, when the company agreed to publish Telenet's Cosmic Fantasy 2.

The Google Phone: what we know... and what we don't (updated)

Art Market Confidence Is Up, Sales Come Next

The hint of a recovery we got in the first half of 2009 has fallen off a bit, according to Art Price's Art Market Confidence Index. The latest report suggests that art prices have dropped 37 percent since January 1, 2008, when the art market first showed signs of weakness. But, there are some indications that it's headed in the right direction over all. Art Price does state that the third quarter is almost always weak. Only 12 percent of auction lots sold during all third quarters over the past decade, and low sales volumes tend to mean low prices.

The art market appears to have hit its worst point in the first quarter of this year, when art prices were down 38 percent over the previous 15 months. Values plunged to 2004 levels, and spectators figured that conditions would only get worse. Prices edged up 1.2 percent after the first quarter, but a slow summer didn't yield any real progress.

Art Price sees the November results as promising, with seasonally adjusted growth for the Post-War period up 2.1 percent since March and the Old Masters picking up 4.5 percent. And, for the past two quarters, only 38 percent of lots failed to sell, and it looks like October and November will stay consistent with that result.

More than anything else, the numbers suggest that confidence is increasing -- which is the first step in a recovery.

Investors would be wise to ignore the 'Goldilocks' recovery scenario

Despite last year's mauling, some high-profile Wall Street analysts see a "Goldilocks" scenario for the economy. That would be one where inflation remains subdued and growth picks up briskly. But investors should think twice before betting on such a fairy tale.

Following a wave of recent bullish data, including a better-than-expected employment report and strong retail sales, some powerhouse investment banks are now raising their growth forecasts for the year ahead. JPMorgan, Credit Suisse and Barclays Capital all now predict that GDP will expand at 4.5% in 2010. That's more than the upper range of 3.5% that even the Federal Reserve recently predicted -- and double the 2% growth scenario that bond giant Pimco has pushed as part of a broader lackluster outlook for the U.S. economy.

Google Gives Free Phone Numbers and Voicemail to Homeless

Google Gives Free Phone Number and Voicemail to San Francisco HomelessGoogle's one phone number for everything service, GrandCentral, is getting a new trial of sorts. Google is taking its 'Do no evil' mantra to the streets of San Francisco -- literally. A partnership between Google, the San Francisco city government, and Project CARE (Communications and Respect for Everybody) is offering a free phone number and voicemail box to every homeless person in the city for life.

The philanthropic program is aimed at helping the homeless not just communicate with friends and family, but also land jobs. One of the big stumbling blocks for the downtrodden is their inaccessibility. When emerging from job training programs, folks need a method of contact, preferably a phone number. By calling from any phone, including pay phones, the homeless will also be able to get a phone number and set up the voicemail box.

Project CARE also sees the voicemail box as a doorway to proper medical testing and care. If the project is successful, Google will expand it through the rest of the state, and hopefully the country.
